This very special photo session was gifted to Kerry and Aaron by their daughter Tamarah who I have become friends with after photographing her gorgeous boy Dutch.

Lilly was 13 at the time and Kerry really wanted some extra special photos to display throughout her home and in particular a special piece to hang on the wall.

They had also just added a new little family member Poppy who was about 6 months at the time and full of energy. As you can imagine she already had them wrapped around her little paws.

About Lilly & Poppy’s Outdoor Photography Session

Our first location was at Grogan Park in the late afternoon. It was so lovely to meet Kerry and Aaron in person and Tamarah decided to join us too which gave them all a chance to spend some time together as a family.

The best part of this session is that Aaron had not planned on being in the photos and through a little encouragement I managed to pull off some gorgeous full family portraits.

The winning photo however was pulled off thanks to both Aaron and Tamarah setting up the dogs for me. This would have been so difficult for me to achieve on my own! But doesn’t it look amazing? It is such a perfect shot of both dogs, and the natural curl of Kerry’s hair just adds to it.

We lost the light a little faster than I had hoped with the clouds rolling in and so I sadly missed a few photos I had hoped to capture. Upon talking to Kerry, we decided to meet again along the Caboolture River.

Sadly, on the day, Lilly was unwell, and she did not look well either. Poor Girl. Kerry was quite worried, and it was dreaded that something serious was happening.

It was a reminder to both of us, just how important this photo session was.

I managed to capture some gorgeous photos that morning, however, poor Lilly really did not look well in them. THANKFULLY after receiving a second opinion from her usual vet, Lilly was taken off medication she didn’t need and made a full recovery. She is once again bright and chirpy and young in spirit.

Here are some of my favourite photos from our sessions together.

After the Session

I am always nervous when I download the photos from my camera, hoping I managed to capture variety and most importantly sharpness! When photographing dogs, I always set my camera to capture a burst of photos. I end up with a gazillion photos to sort through, but it does mean I can sort through to find the sharpest photo AND potentially have the option to do head swaps! Dogs are forever twitching and looking around so it’s great to have options.

I also included a very special photo of Poppy with a butterfly. The artist in me loves to add a little magic to special photos but in a way that makes you question “Did that really happen?”

I am very proud to announce that this photo has gone on to win multiple awards and an International GOLD Award in the ‘QLD International Circuit’. The photo of the butterfly was captured at the Bribie Butterfly House. I highly recommend going if you love butterflies. 🙂

The Reveal

On the evening of the reveal, I was so nervous but excited to share the collection of photos with Aaron and Kerry. Of course Tamarah came too and shared in the oooohs, ahhs and tears.

Sitting back and watching them experience the special video I create for them always melts my heart. I am proud of the artwork I create and when I know just how much it means to the people I create it for, the emotions can be a little overwhelming. 🙂

Artwork Collection

I asked Kerry if she would mind me recording their reaction when they came to collect their photos.

To my surprise, upon leaving, Aaron hugged and thanked me. He was so moved by the whole experience together and the beautiful collection.

How lucky am I to have been able to create something so special for this couple?

Owners thoughts on the Family Photo Session

Zoe asked me what my biggest concern before our session was…
I was worried I wouldn’t be happy with the images. Wow…. couldn’t be further from the truth. It was hard to narrow down the ones we did. I could have purchased them all.

I found Zoe’s casual relaxed manner easy, but she also knew what she wanted to be able to produce such amazing images. She was also happy to listen to my opinions and ideas for the images I wanted.

If you were my best friend, I’d say “DO IT!! Trust the process and you will not be disappointed.”

Would you like to capture some extra special photos of your family and dog?
